Since the dawning of the television network wars, stars from opposite camps in the Kapamilya or Kapuso territories always had a thing to say against each other. Rarely do we see talents from the same network engage in bitter hostility to the point of daring management to take sides and drop one of them.
This dispute emerged Tuesday on ABS-CBN when Wowowee host Willie Revillame spent minutes of broadcast airtime to lash out at fellow Kapamilya talent and “The Buzz” segment host Jobert Sucaldito taking him to task for his on-air comments against the network’s daily noontime show.
Revillame was fuming mad in his televised remarks against Sucaldito, who is also a radio show host and tabloid columnist, over alleged disparaging statements he made in dzMM’s “Showbiz Mismo.” Revillame was aghast that Sucaldito supposedly belittled high school students who were contestants in his show over their failing marks in school.
“Nananawagan lang ho ako sa management ng ABS, huwag n’yo naman ho payagan tinitira ‘yung show natin. Ang laki ho ng kinikita ng Wowowee para sa ABS. Mamili na kayo. Kapag hindi ninyo ‘yan tinanggal, ako ang magre-resign dito sa Wowowee! (I’m calling on ABS-CBN to not allow anyone to hit the show. ‘Wowowee’ has been earning a lot for the network. Make a choice. If you don’t fire him, I’ll resign from ‘Wowowee.’”)
He added: “Para po sa mga tao ito. Para sa mga taong espesyal, para sa mga 75 percent ang grades. Ipaglalaban ko ang mga estudyanteng ‘yan. (This is for the people, for those special people, those who get grades of 75. I’m fighting for these students.)
Revillame claimed Sucaldito would always single him out in his columns and mince no words in criticizing him and the popular noontime show.
“Wala na kayong ginawa kundi ako tirahin dito. Mabigat na ‘to sobra na. Ilang taon na ako nananahimik, tinitira ako sa dyaryo niyang Jobert na ‘yan. (You don’t have anything else to do but criticize me. I’ve been silent for years. Jobert had always hit me in the papers. But I just remained silent).”
The TV host further urged ABS-CBN to look after the welfare of its talents and not allow such attacks, especially from fellow contract artists.
“(To) ABS-CBN management, gawan ninyo ng paraan ‘yan. Alagaan ninyo ang mga talent ninyo dahil kami ang nagbubuhos dito ng pagod at lahat. Huwag naman na dito sa sarili naming tahanan ay tinitira kami dito. (To ABS-CBN management, do something about it. Take care of your talents because they work very hard for the network. Please don’t allow such attacks from within our home).”
In his message to Sucaldito, Revillame said: “Sobra na! Huwag mong idadamay ang programang ito! Ang programang ito ay hindi sa yo, ang may-ari ay Pilipino. (This is too much. Don’t pick on our show. It’s not yours. It’s owned by all Filipinos).”
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Sucaldito says Revillame’s action against him is unfair. “Kapag hindi niya gusto ang ginawa ng news, magagalit siya. Ok lang. Pwede. Kapag tayo, hindi pwede siyang punahin (If he doesn’t like what news says, he gets mad. That’s okay. But if it’s us, we can’t say anything about him). I don’t think it’s fair.”
In response, ABS-CBN said it was seriously dealing with the matter and has been communicating with Revillame and Sucaldito regarding the issue.
“Kinausap kaagad ng pamunuan ng ABS-CBN si Willie at Jobert tungkol sa isyu sa pagitan nila. Naniniwala ang pamunuan ng ABS-CBN na maaayos ito sa magandang pag-uusap at di na nararapat magsagutan pa sa ere (ABS-CBN management has talked to Willie and Jobert on the issue between them. We believe that this will be settled through dialogue and that they must not resort to any on-air word war),” said Bong Osorio, ABS-CBN Head of Corporate Communications.
